In addition to the major works already recorded, the Brest hospital is betting on a major additional investment plan. Digital and aimed at rapid adaptation to new patient needs, this (r) evolution is scheduled for the next 10 years.

The real estate and digital transformation master plan of the Brest Regional University Hospital Center now provides for a total expenditure of € 841 million over 10 years, including 200 million current works, and 641 million modernization operations. A budget revised upwards in recent months, in order to prepare the hospital of tomorrow.

Improved care for the elderly

The main novelties programmed concern the medico-social sector, with the care of the elderly. It is henceforth planned to bring together all the accommodation establishments for the elderly dependent on the hospital on a single site: the René Fortin center, which would be completely rebuilt. The Ponchelet and Guilers centers would then close their doors, to join a real city dedicated to the care of the elderly, with a capacity of 400 beds. Completion scheduled between 2024 and 2028, for a budget of 66 million euros, partly financed by the sale of the Ponchelet site.

Digitization on the menu

Other main priorities: lmother child pole who must undergo a total facelift and the regrouping and extension of the Morvan adult critical care platform, for an amount of 40 million euros, with delivery scheduled in the next six years. The digitization of the hospital is also on the agenda (implementation of a new computerized patient record, cybersecurity, etc.)

A major modernization plan

But the reflection of the CHRU goes further and also provides for:

  • the regrouping of the technical platforms of interventional radiology (less and less invasive), for a stronger intervention capacity. All for a budget of 13 million euros for work and 10 million euros for the acquisition of medical equipment. Delivery scheduled for 2028.
  • the renovation of operating theaters at Cavale Blanche for 13 million euros. Delivery expected within 5 years.
  • the change of the water loop of the hemodialysis of Cavale Blanche and increasing the capacity for nephrology, for 6.5 million euros.
  • the hotel and energy compliance of all the divisions, for 112 million euros over the next 10 years.
  • extension of the current dental centere, to meet an exponential demand for support. Cost of the work: 8.7 million euros for delivery in 2027

A global project to finance

All of these programs were not included in the future investment program. But the situation has changed in recent months, notably with the turnaround of the Ministry of the Armed Forces, which no longer wishes to see its hospitals reach the public. The Brest joint hospital thus retains its resuscitation activities, its laboratory, as well as its pharmacy and sterilization: “So we had to resize our own projects. Our master plan now has a solid basis, which will require assistance from the Ségur de la santé. We are in the objectives of the latter, which plans to finance operations to be completed quickly, with a positive impact on the healthcare offer and the overall financial trajectory ”, recalls Florence Favrel-Feuillade, general manager of the CHRU. Of the 310 million unscheduled modernization operations, the establishment will seek state aid of 120 million.

Two other major projects, already scheduled, are on track: the opening of the cancer center, scheduled for 2023, and the construction of a new 14,000 m² psychiatric center in Bohars, with delivery in two stages, in 2026 and 2028.
