Catalonia was successful on Friday in imposing a curfew at night in the cities hardest hit by the delta virus, including Barcelona.
The curfew will apply between 01 at night and 06 in the morning, and will take effect already this weekend.
Nearly 80,000 cases of infection have been detected in Catalonia, a region of around 7.7 million people, in the last two weeks. The infection is particularly high among people in their 20s.
The ban lasts until July 23, but can be extended if local authorities request it.
