Belgian film ‘La Civil’ wins Audacity Award at Cannes Film Festival | Movie

Directed by Flemish filmmaker Teodora Ana Mihai, ‘La Civil’ tells the story of Cielo, a Mexican mother who goes in search of her daughter who was kidnapped by a drug cartel. When the authorities fail to help, Cielo takes matters into her own hands and gradually transforms from a housewife into a vengeful militant. The lead role is played by Arcelia Ramirez, with supporting roles for Alvaro Guerrero and Jorge A. Jimenez. The film is inspired by true events of cartel violence in Mexico.

Earlier, the short film ‘L’enfant salamandre’ by the Belgian Théo Degen was awarded the main prize in the selection of Cinéfondation. This selection includes short films from film schools worldwide. A cash prize of 15,000 euros is attached to the prize.
