18 Symptoms of Long Covid that are Commonly Experienced in Indonesia

Recovered or tested negative from Covid-19 does not guarantee that the patient is completely free from the effects of the corona virus. Some Covid-19 survivors experience symptoms long Covid. The following are the symptoms of long Covid that are often experienced in Indonesia.

Long Covid is a number of symptoms that persist even months after a person is declared cured or negative from Covid-19.

The majority of Covid-19 survivors in Indonesia also experience long Covid symptoms. A study from FKUI and Friendship Hospital last March found that 63.5 percent of Covid-19 survivors in Indonesia experienced long Covid symptoms.

The results were obtained from an online survey conducted on 463 Covid-19 survivors in Indonesia, which included people without symptoms to critically ill. The results of this preliminary report were presented at The 18th Scientific Respiratory Medicine.

From the survey, the results showed that 63.5 survivors experienced long-term Covid symptoms and 36.5% had no symptoms after recovering. Symptoms of long Covid that appear vary from fatigue, shortness of breath, depression, diarrhea, to vomiting.

The following are the symptoms of long Covid that appear in Covid-19 survivors in Indonesia.

3. Muscle pain 11.23 percent
4. Headache 11.23 percent
5. Sleep disturbance 9.72 percent
6. Shortness of breath 9.29 percent
7. Joint pain 9.07 percent
8. Anxiety 8.42 percent
9. Heart palpitations 7.78 percent
10. Concentration disorders 6.91 percent
11. Nausea 5.83 percent
12. Nasal congestion 5.18 percent
13. Anosmia 4.10 percent
14. Sore throat 3.46 percent
15. Depression 2.59 percent
16. Fever 2.16 percent
17. Diarrhea 1.94 percent
18. Vomiting 1.51 percent

The chairman of the Indonesian Lung Doctors Association, Agus Dwi Susanto, who also took part in this study, suggested that survivors who experience long Covid symptoms can consult a doctor.

“If you have long Covid, you should consult a doctor regarding persistent symptoms. For example, symptoms of cough, shortness of breath, go to a lung doctor,” Agus told CNNIndonesia.com, last March.

According to Agus, most patients who experience long Covid symptoms only require outpatient treatment.

“Generally outpatient, after being given therapy. In some cases can be hospitalized, but rarely,” he said.
