Dr. Edgard Bodán Bravo, from Granada, died this Thursday, supposedly because of Covid-19.
The page Héroes de blanco, on Facebook, confirmed that the doctor “succumbed” to Covid-19 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Fernando Vélez Paiz hospital.
He also confirmed his death to this newspaper through a Messenger message: “Sadly, it is true, we have just confirmed the news.”
THE PRESS communicated by cell phone with a son of Dr. Bodán, who confirmed his death, but did not respond as to whether his death was caused by the coronavirus. He explained that he would not give more details, because they were going to bury his father’s body tonight and then he cut the call.
Dr. Edgard Bodán Bravo worked at the Japan Nicaragua hospital in Granada. Some relatives had also reported their health status days before on their social networks.

Covid-19 on the rise
This week the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported 306 new cases of Covid-19 in Nicaragua, an increase of 23 new cases compared to last week. Since mid-March, the numbers of new confirmed cases of the disease have increased weekly. At that time, the Minsa only reported 45 new cases a week.
The medical sector could be one of the most affected by the pandemic in the country, but in the official figures they are not mentioned.

The Covid-19 Nicaragua Citizen Observatory reported 15 new suspected cases of coronavirus last week among health personnel, who are on the front lines of the pandemic. It also reported eight new suspicious deaths in that sector.
According to the Citizen Observatory, since the first case of Covid-19 was reported in Nicaragua, on March 18, 2020, until July 7, 1,113 health workers have suffered associated or presumptive symptoms of this disease. In addition, in that time 147 accumulated deaths have been reported in that sector.
