The bomb squad landed by helicopter in Arendal around 8 pm on Thursday night. A technician worked on the site before the bag with the shock grenades and other contents was transported away from the site. The objects were transported to a gravel roof on Stoa, and destroyed, writes Agderposten.
At 9 pm, it was still unknown whether there was explosives in the bag that was found at the bottom of Sørsvann. The area was then open for traffic again.
The possible explosives were found on Thursday afternoon. Police evacuated the beach after the finds, although the grenades and the other contents of the bag were not initially a danger to the public.
– We take into account that there is explosives, but we do not know 100 percent yet. If it were not, we could have taken care of it ourselves, but it is difficult to assess, says operations manager Audun Eide in the Agder police district to NTB at 6 pm on Thursday.
