Scorching heat and sweltering humidity return to the city for the next 48 hours with a combination that will cause temperatures to feel close to 100 degrees or higher.
The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for the city beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday and running through Friday night.
“Summer returns with the accumulation of heat and humidity throughout the Tri-State to end the work week,” the Service said in a message on social networks.

The city for its part, also warns of the heat calling to “prepare for a hot weekend.”
“If you can, stay in air conditioning and drink lots of water. Cooling centers will be open,” the message continues on twitter.

Rains and some more widespread thunderstorms could return over the weekend.
Both Saturday and Sunday present storm threats with high temperatures expected around 88 degrees and 83 degrees, respectively.
While temperatures will drop to minus 80 degrees by Sunday, there will still be no relief from the oppressive humidity until late next week.
