Vatican City, Jul 15 (EFE) .- The pope appointed José Trinidad Fernández Angulo bishop of the diocese of Trujillo (Venezuela), transferring him from his post as auxiliary to the archdiocese of Caracas, the Vatican reported today in a statement.
Fernández Angulo, general secretary of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference, was born in May 1964 in Mérida (northwestern Venezuela) and was ordained a priest on July 30, 1989 in the archdiocese of his city.
He completed his studies in Theology at the Santo Tomás de Aquino Ecclesiastical University Institute of the Diocese of San Cristóbal (southwest) and graduated in Philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
In the Archdiocese of Mérida he has been parish priest, professor at the Minor Seminary, advisor for youth and vocation ministry, and director of studies and vice-rector of the Major Seminary.
In Caracas, he has been vice-rector of the San José Seminary, research director of the Santa Rosa de Lima University and, in the Santa Rosa de Lima Major Seminary, professor, vice-rector and rector.
He was appointed titular bishop of Cerenza and auxiliary of Caracas on April 17, 2014, and ordained bishop on July 6 of that year.
Since January 2018, he has held the position of Secretary General of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference. EFE
