But for the first time since the establishment – thirteen years ago – of this measure which it challenges more and more vehemently, the interpreter of “Toxic” and “… Baby One More Time” saw his horizon clear up.
The judge in charge of the case indeed allowed Britney Spears to choose her own lawyer on Wednesday, which she had not been able to do so far.
Mathew Rosengart, known for having defended other Hollywood stars in the past, such as Sean Penn or Steven Spielberg, will now represent the artist.

He immediately told AFP that he planned to file “as soon as possible” a request so that the singer’s father, Jamie Spears, no longer has control over his daughter’s property.
“Abusive guardianship”
The 39-year-old singer was placed under this regime in 2008, after a well-publicized descent into hell at the time.
The conditions are very strict and stipulate that the decisions concerning her are taken in particular by her father Jamie Spears, with whom she has long had a difficult relationship.
“I want an investigation against my father,” assured the star who spoke at Wednesday’s hearing by telephone, even mentioning a possible “protection order” against him.
In tears, Britney Spears begged the court to end this “abusive guardianship”.
A plea that echoed his explosive testimony delivered at the end of June, where the singer had said “traumatized” and “depressed”.
For about twenty minutes, speaking uninterruptedly with an extremely fast flow, she had then assured to have had to take drugs to control her behavior, not to have been authorized to make decisions concerning her friendships or her finances, and not to have was able to have an IUD removed when she wanted to have more children.
“I just want to get my life back, it’s been thirteen years and that’s enough,” she begged.
Madonna, Justin Timberlake
Confidences that had received massive support in the world of pop, from her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, to Christina Aguilera or Madonna.
And revived once again the #FreeBritney campaign (# LibérezBritney in French) orchestrated in the street and on social networks by some fans. Hundreds of them were gathered in Los Angeles court on Wednesday, but also in New York, Phoenix, London, where they held rallies of support.
“It’s not just about Britney. But also of all the other people who are trapped ”by a form of supervision, affirms with AFP Patrick Thomas, 34, at the initiative of one of these demonstrations in the capital Washington.
Since the singer’s testimony last month, many characters at the heart of this complex and controversial system have distanced themselves.
Samuel Ingham, the lawyer assigned to Britney Spears by a court a few months after the star with the shaved head attacked a paparazzi in 2007, has asked to be removed from his post.
The financial management company that was to take joint control of Britney Spears’ fortune with her father Jamie, did the same.
Two requests validated Wednesday by the judge responsible for the case.
Larry Rudolph, manager of the longtime artist, has also left the ship.
Will Britney Spears ever regain control of her personal and professional life? The judge has not yet gone as far as to say it.
In the meantime, it is the star who is responsible for paying the legal costs of both parties, including the high fees of the lawyers who oppose her in this case.
