The Canary Islands will receive 466 million euros to promote clean energy | Radio Club Tenerife

The President of the Canary Islands has announced that the Islands will receive 466 million euros from Next Generation European funds to promote clean energy. “We have a deficit and an opportunity. We have a magnificent geographical location, more hours of sunshine than anyone else (…) This is the opportunity ”, Ángel Víctor Torres assured.

The Socialist leader thanked the central government for its “commitment to uniqueness” and assured that in the coming days the Archipelago will receive 48 million euros for the electric vehicle park, the photovoltaic plant or self-consumption.

Asked by the president of the Gomera Socialist Group, Casimiro Curbelo, about the consequences for the Canary Islands of the changes in the energy sector, Torres has eluded a concrete answer and pointed out that they are framed at the legislative level, so they should be taken into account consideration in the Courts.

However, he has asserted that the announced funds will serve to decarbonize the economy and also to lower the controversial electricity bill by generating savings in families. “That is the green transformation that Europe has been asking for for years and that the crisis has advanced so that territories like the Canary Islands bet on sustainable energies,” he concluded.
