Rui Patricio (33) signed up for AS Roma on Wednesday. The Portuguese goalkeeper (97 caps) signed a three-year contract as expected and is therefore the first signing the new coach, José Mourinho.

The Wolverhampton player and Euro 2016 winner arrived in Rome on Tuesday for his medical examination. The amount of his transfer may reach “11.5 million euros, bonus included”, the club said in a statement. The goalkeeper is expected to receive two million euros per season, until June 2024, according to the Italian press. His first words were for his compatriot Mourinho who is according to him “One of the best coaches in the world”.

Rui Patricio was eliminated from Euro 2021 in the round of 16 by Belgium. He arrived at Wolverhampton in 2018 from Sporting Lisbon and has “Showed all his qualities in the Premier League for several seasons, in addition to his many successes with the Portuguese selection”, said Roma general manager Tiago Pinto.
