150,000 Dutch people receive compensation for Volkswagen with “sjoemel software”: what does this mean for Belgium?

People and companies in the Netherlands who have bought so-called “cheated diesels” from the German car group Volkswagen are entitled to financial compensation. The court in Amsterdam has decided this. Anyone who bought a new Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT or Skoda with so-called cheating software is entitled to a price reduction of 3,000 euros, for a used car this is 1,500 euros. It applies to approximately 150,000 cars that consumers bought from car dealers that the claims foundation Stichting Car Claim has involved in the lawsuit. The judge reasoned that a buyer can expect the car to comply with the regulations. If it doesn’t, a car is worth less than the purchase price.
