The former Hrabal’s cottage in Kersk is for sale

The sale of the cottage was also confirmed by publicist Jan Řehounek. According to Řehounek, the former Hrabal’s cottage belongs to the neighbors, who also own the side cottage.

“Even during Hrabal’s lifetime, in the last years, the neighbors who have a cottage there took care of him,” Řehounek said, adding that in recent years the cottage was rather unused.

According to the advertisement, the cottage has a usable area of 79 square meters, the land is 3496 square meters. The seller states that these are investment opportunities. The fact that this is a former cottage of Bohumil Hrabal, however, does not mention.

The sale of the cottage was also confirmed by the mayor of Hradišťka-Kerska Vlastimil Šesták, according to him the municipality is not considering the purchase. “Eleven million is our annual budget. The purchase would mean stopping the village for four to five years, “said Šesták.

The village of Hradišťko, of which Kersko is a part, has about 700 inhabitants. In addition to his cottage, Hrabala is also reminded of the nature trail, which has 13 sites. Tourists will learn about the forest and life in it, about Bohumil Hrabal and places associated with him and other attractions in the region. Neighbors from the cottage settlement Kersko were Hrabal’s model for the book Snowdrop Festival, according to which the film of the same name by director Jiří Menzel was made.
