Roger Federer will finally not be present at Tokyo 2020, the Swiss tennis player issued a statement in which he confirmed his absence due to a physical complication.
Federer had just fallen in the Wimbledon quarterfinals and from that moment on, his presence had been in doubt for the Japanese event. The Swiss joins Rafa Nadal as the great absentees in Olympic tennis.
“During the grass season, I unfortunately experienced a setback in my knee and I have decided not to participate in the Tokyo Olympics,” Roger reported through his social networks. In his statement, the tennis player was disappointed by this situation that will prevent him from defending once again the colors of his country. “I’m sad, it was always an honor and one of the most important moments in my career when I had to represent Switzerland,” he concluded.
