LONDON (AP) – Britain’s Johanna Konta said Tuesday that she tested positive for COVID-19, so she will not participate in the Tokyo Olympics, two weeks after she dropped out of Wimbledon after a member of her team contracted the virus.
–
The tennis player, a three-time semi-finalist in Grand Slam tournaments, indicated on Twitter that while she was in isolation due to being in close contact with a coronavirus patient, she developed symptoms and subsequently tested positive.
–
“As a result, I have not been able to train for the last two and a half weeks and sadly, that has left my body in a situation where it will not be fully ready in time for the Tokyo Olympics,” wrote Konta, who is 38th of the world.
–
The opening ceremony is in 10 days.
–
Konta, who was born in Australia, was quarantined for 10 days after a member of her team tested positive before Wimbledon.
–
“I will do my best to come back completely healthy, fit and ready to race again,” he said.
–
Konta is another outstanding tennis player who will miss the Games. Roger Federer announced on Tuesday that he will not be in the fair, assuring that there was a setback in his recovery from a knee problem.
–
Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Simona Halep, Dominic Thiem and Nick Kyrgios will also not fight for the medals.
