Half a million Bulgarians work on a minimum wage – BGN 650 (Overview, chart)

PLAMEN DIMITROV

The CITUB wants the average to be BGN 2,560 for up to 4 years

493,012 Bulgarians receive the minimum salary of BGN 650 at the end of March. This is 21.8% of all employees.

The increase

of the people of

minimal

salary is with

40 thousand people

per year, according to CITUB data.

The net income of a worker, if he lives alone, must be at least BGN 1069.25 in order to be able to cover his living expenses – food, housing, education, healthcare, clothing, transport. The gross salary, which will be enough for maintenance in June, is BGN 1,378, they point out.

For a typical Bulgarian family of two working with a child under 14, the gross salary per person should be BGN 1,240, and since the beginning of the year it has risen by BGN 22.

One of the reasons is the jump in food. The increase in prices of bread products in total is 1.3%, while for flour and pasta it is in the range of 5-7%. Milk and dairy products rose by 1.2%, with a more pronounced increase in cheese – by 2.3%. In animal and vegetable oils the jump is by 14.9%, as in sunflower

in restaurants for

fast food –

by 5.7% and by 3.4%

in restaurants

In parallel, the price of natural gas increased by 25.7%. Growth is also observed in hairdressing services – by 3.6%.

The necessary salary for maintenance is unattainable for half of the employees, explained the President of CITUB Plamen Dimitrov. This is the reason why the union insists on the introduction of a wage for subsistence and thus to reduce the number of working poor.

It’s 8.1 times

the difference between

the lowest

and the highest

salary with us,

and a year earlier it had been 6.2 times.

CITUB calls for incomes in Bulgaria to increase sharply before and after the country’s entry into the eurozone.

The growth should be by 12.5% on average per year, and at the minimum wage should be 17.5%. “This will ensure that we achieve a minimum-average wage ratio of 50 percent by 2025. Thus, at least half of the employees will receive a” maintenance salary “in the next 4 years,” Dimitrov calculated. According to the union, the average salary should be between BGN 2450-2560 in 2025, and the minimum – BGN 1239.

Next year, the minimum wage is expected to freeze at BGN 650, Dimitrov reminded the estimates in the medium-term budget forecast. And he urged the next government to commit to lifting it.
