Code orange in Limburg, streets and roads blank due to rainfall

Large parts of Limburg have to take into account considerable flooding in the coming days. The KNMI expects heavy rainfall in the south of Limburg until Thursday, with more than 75 millimeters of rain falling daily. Until Thursday, more than 150 millimeters of precipitation must be expected locally, according to the weather service.

The two Limburg safety regions warn of a sudden rise in the water level in the Meuse, tributaries and streams throughout Limburg due to excessive rainfall.

The South Limburg Security Region calls on people to only call the emergency room in acute or life-threatening situations.

Measures against flooding

Due to the rain showers, several Limburg municipalities had already measures taken to minimize flooding as much as possible. The Limburg water board had also taken the necessary measures. For example, extra checks are made and weirs are set to a lower position.

A campaign has also been launched via social media to inform Limburgers about measures against flooding and when they should or should not call 112.
