After closing its doors in 1988, the space had remained empty, until Apple decided to fully recover its structure in a project that combined the talent of restaurateurs, artists and the commitment of the authorities of the city of Los Angeles.
While they have made a comprehensive seismic upgrade to the building, and the surfaces have been carefully restored, the real gem consists of the fully restored clock tower, the marquee of Broadway redesigned and historic sign with a slight design change.
At the epicenter of the store and under the completely restored arch and surrounded by the original boxes of the cinema of yesteryear, is the forum area, a space dedicated to sessions of Today at Apple, free daily talks given by members of the Apple team where they will teach practical skills.
With a lobby inspired by Charles Garnier’s Paris Opera, an arched staircase with bronze handrails and flanked by Corinthian marble columns, as well as two elevators in the building to receive customers on all floors of the new store. Apple equipment repairs or assistance will be provided.
Also, Apple has launched Today at Apple Creative Studios, a global initiative that will offer hands-on experience and guidance to young creatives. Betting on a program in conjunction with the NGO Music Forward Foundation, Inner-City Arts and the Social Justice Learning Institute, Creative Studios will offer access to technology, creative resources and hands-on classes, along with nine weeks of free programming.
