Samsung Electronics lberia, SAU has just presented the 2020 Annual Report that includes its commitment to Spain to boost the national economy and contribute to improving society in our country. Thus, it collects the impact of its activity in terms of the contribution of wealth to the country, employment and fiscal contribution, especially oriented towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the United Nations in 2015 .
According to the report, Samsung’s activity in Spain has had a direct impact on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2020. Its total tax collection (581.5 million euros) is equivalent to 22% of spending on Social Services of the General State Budgets and for each euro of benefit achieved, 26 euros of total tax collection were generated, which contributes to achieving the objectives of ending poverty (ODS 1) and reduction of inequalities (ODS 10).
In addition, in order to contribute to sustainable development and in line with its business and social commitment, Samsung has identified those SDGs especially linked to its activity. In this regard, his contribution to the labor and educational field stands out, promoting an inclusive, equitable and quality education (ODS 4) and promoting entrepreneurship and employability through creation and innovation (ODS 8).
Specifically, in the area of education, Samsung contributes to ensuring ICT skills for future generations, promoting inclusive and diverse education, and boosting teacher motivation through programs such as Samsung Smart School, Samsung EGO, Asignatura Empatía or ODS al cole. . For example, the program Samsung Smart School, which favors the use of technology in teaching and promotes the development of digital skills of students and teachers, has already been implemented in 108 5th and 6th grade classrooms of Primary Education, has trained about 700 teachers and has impacted more than 4,000 students from 40 public centers throughout Spain.
In the field of employability, the company encourages entrepreneurship and employment through initiatives such as Samsung Innovation Campus, which in the last six years has trained more than 2,000 students with a 45% employability ratio, adapting their knowledge to the requirements of the most demanded professional profiles or Samsung Developers, initiative aimed at the training of the female group in STEM professions. More than 2,500 women have been trained for free thanks to this program. In addition, the company launched in 2020 a new free Artificial Intelligence course for young people in online format, taught by the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the University of Malaga with cutting-edge educational content, such as training in Deep Learning and Machine Learning.
In addition, Samsung seeks to disseminate and preserve the culture (ODS 11), since it considers it an excellent vehicle for social development. For this reason, for almost a decade it has collaborated with the most important cultural centers in the country, providing its solutions to bring the arts closer to society and improve the experience. Collaborations with some of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the country stand out, such as the Museo Nacional del Prado, the Royal Theater or the Thyssen Museum, developing applications, digital content or virtual reality experiences.
Finally, in the area of accessibility and well-being, in 2020 Samsung presented, together with the Luzón Foundation and Irisbond, the Tallk app, an innovative tool that allows people with reduced mobility and absence of oral language to communicate, such as ALS patients. On the other hand, Samsung became in 2020 the first manufacturer to obtain the universal accessibility rating from the ONCE Foundation for its terminals. With these innovative projects, the company fulfills its commitment to favor universal access to technology (ODS 10). In addition, Samsung in Spain has fostered alliances between different entities in 2020 to promote inclusion and technological advancement (ODS 17), with important agreements with the Atresmedia Foundation, the ONCE Foundation, the Spanish Breast Cancer Federation (FECMA), the Red Cross or Children’s Villages, among others.

In Spain, this philosophy is materialized under the “Technology with Purpose” program, present in all the activities that the company carries out to improve society. 30 years of Samsung in Spain
Samsung has recently presented “30 years in Spain: 1990 – 2020”, a book that reflects the trajectory and history of the company since it was incorporated as a company in Spain in 1990 under the name Samsung Electronics Sociedad Anónima (SESA). The publication reviews their achievements through the commercialization of iconic products that have marked the consumer technology industry, as well as their contribution to the modernization and technological advancement of the country in the last three decades.
