He was driving at a walk in a still very busy Place de la Comédie on a Friday night, when he was run over by a delivery man on a scooter who did not stop. He calls for witnesses.
His mouth and cervicals keep the stigmata of l’accident. Yohan, a cyclist Montpellier, was the victim of a very violent shock last Saturday, June 26, while he was returning by bike to his home after an evening in town passing by the place de la Comédie.
It was around 1 a.m., at the level of the Three Graces when the shock took place. “There were a lot of people in the square, I was going at a ridiculous speed, I had just passed a group at the level of the fountain when a scooter came to the left and hit me”, tells the victim. “The driver, who was a delivery man who probably didn’t see me, didn’t brake when the place was full of people”, Yoann remembers. Because then he mostly remembers the pain he felt after falling on his head: “ I was thrown over the bike and my chin hit the ground “. In his fall, he broke his teeth and was shocked in the neck area. Stunned, he tries to resume his way on foot. “Some young girls saw that I was not well and asked me if I wanted to call the police.”
Handrail
The young girls report the accident to the police officers who are on patrol. “I was stunned, they called the fire department but since I could walk, I had to go to the hospital by myself. I was in good shape, so I went home”. In the morning, he tries to file a complaint at the police station, but “ the police told me that we could not see anything on the cameras of the city which does not continuously film the same places “. Without an identified witness, without a patented medical element, Yohan was only able to register a handbook, coupled with a pre-complaint online.
Call for help
Another problem, Yoann who ends up with three broken teeth and a compression of vertebrae is only insured for a third. As a result, the care may cost him dearly. He also contacted the meal delivery sign to try to identify the perpetrator but the latter is waiting for a police injunction to do so. In desperation, he called for witnesses to try to identify the author of the accident.
Traffic rules on the Com
Traffic and parking on the Place de la Comédie are governed by a municipal decree, which classifies this place as a pedestrian area. It stipulates stricter rules than those governing the Escutcheon. The circulation and parking of vehicles are prohibited there, with some exceptions (emergency services, doctors, craftsmen, deliveries, removals). The text states that “vehicles authorized in the pedestrian area must circulate at walking pace, including cyclists who are authorized to circulate in the pedestrian area. Drivers must give priority to pedestrians and obey the rules of the Traffic Laws”.
A maximum speed of 6 km / h
This provision applies to all vehicles, whatever the engine or the number of wheels, including scooters. This means a maximum speed of 6km / h. The perimeter of the Comédie pedestrian area includes the Place de la Comédie, the Esplanade Charles de Gaulle, the rue des Étuves in its part between n ° 10 and the Place de la Comédie, the rue de la Loge in its part between Place de Compostelle and Place de la Comédie, passage Lonjon; Allée Jean de Lattre in Tassigny; Place René Devic, rue Charles Amans; the Rue de Maguelone in its part between the Place de la Comédie and the Rue du Clos René.
