Knut (79) sold a luxury villa to NRK:

– It is sad and with a heavy heart I am selling the home, says Knut Wisting (79) to Børsen.

The luxury villa is spectacularly located on idyllic Ljan in the Nordstrand district of Oslo.

Wisting has lived here since 1986.

– I was involved in drawing it with the architect in the eighties, and have had the great pleasure of living here with my wife, who died a few years ago. So there is a lot of personal history in the walls here, he says.

Nordstrands Blad mentioned the sale first.

Spectacular home

Those who have driven Mosseveien into Oslo may have noticed the sensational pink detached house, with its angled façade.

The house was designed by architect Unn Piene, in collaboration with Wisting, and was completed in 1986. It has 201 square meters of usable area spread over four floors.

It boasts towers, columns and a fantastic panoramic view of the Oslo Fjord, according to the housing advertisement.

The home can also offer four bedrooms, a roof terrace and a ballroom.

– Outstanding

Attempts have been made to sell the magnificent property in three rounds, first last year.

Then it was put out for 17.5 million, then lowered to 15 million. Not even then did anyone strike.

A new brokerage firm took over, pricing it at 17 million.

The spectacular home got several interested parties, and in mid-June it was sold for 16 million kroner – the buyer is NRK.

Broker Scott Martinsen, in Eie Eiendomsmegling, says that NRK made a careful inspection of the house before they struck.

– They spent about a week deciding, Martinsen says to Børsen.

With the state channel as owner, the house gets the attention it deserves, he believes.

– This house is «one of a kind». Knut should have the credit for the building being as it was. He really shaped his dream house, which cost an insane amount of money to build in 1986.

The broker claims he “would have bought the house himself, if he was in a relocation situation”.

– It is a house that is noticed and that stands out. Everyone has an opinion about it – even I belong to the category that thinks the house is canon tough.

– Has a distinctive character and strong identity

NRK is satisfied with the purchase.

– We looked at several houses, and when this appeared, it met all the needs and visions we have for the concept we are working with, says producer in NRK Entertainment, Lars Erik Steffensen, to Børsen.

He adds that the house has a “distinctive and strong identity”, and met the qualities they were looking for in the concept and program content to be produced.

Steffensen says that the house was bought for use as a location for program content NRK entertainment is developing with. The current project is aimed at a young target group with an interest in gaming, he states.

– The target group has expectations for a different type of content than we have created before. We therefore want to realize it outside a traditional studio.

– 16 million is a lot of money?

– It is a lot of money, but as an investment in real estate, it is money that is relatively safe and NRK expects to get it back at a sale later. As it is with the “Side om Side” house. There are no values used up by a project, says Steffensen.

The house lives on

– I think it’s nice that NRK buys the building, so that it lives on as a creative house. Basically, the house in its form is creative, says the seller Wisting.

His wife, who was a singer, died a few years ago. The 79-year-old is a draftsman himself, and has used the part with the unique sloping windows as a drawing room. He has also run an advertising agency from here.

After retiring, they have used the studio in the house to hold parties and concerts.

Although it is sad to sell, Wisting is clearly pleased that it is NRK that has now secured the house.

– The house is in the right hands, he thinks.

Moving to the country

Wisting says that he replaces the magnificent villa in the city with peace in the countryside.

– I will move to Ørje where I will move into a smaller, simpler home. There I have more friends and acquaintances, and then I can drive more by car which is a big interest. This is something that has become more difficult in the city.
