Australia’s highest number of infections this year • Israelis can get third shot

Residents of Israel with a weakened immune system can now receive an additional vaccination with Pfizer/BioNTech. Health Minister Horowitz says he is still considering whether such a third jab, also called a booster is also offered to the rest of the population.

The extra vaccination will become available for people who have undergone an organ transplant, for example. Or for people who are at increased risk due to a medical condition. Despite the high vaccination rate, the number of infections in Israel is increasing again, mainly due to the delta variant. At the beginning of June, several dozen infections were reported daily, now there are hundreds again.

Pfizer/BioNTech claims that an additional vaccination significantly increases the amount of antibodies in the body. It should be noted that the research that would substantiate this claim has not yet been published. In addition, there are huge commercial interests at play.
