NEW YORK – A raging fire at a home in Queens injured several people and claimed the life of a 9-year-old boy Sunday morning, authorities announced.
New York City firefighters responded to the incident of 2 alarms, in a house located in Hillmeyer Avenue, after reports of several people trapped inside the scene.
Upon arrival at around 6:30 am on Sunday, the house was consumed by flames and they removed one person with critical injuries and three others with minor injuries, according to the Fire Department.
The victims were transported to St John Hospital and hours later authorities confirmed the death of 9-year-old Matthew Picahardo. The forensic doctor will determine the cause of death of the minor.
The fire was controlled around 7:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire and the identity of the other injured people have not yet been released.
This is a case under investigation.
