Argentina won the Copa América for the 15th time this morning, beating Brazil 1-0, in the final played at Maracanã Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro. Interestingly, Brazil was the last-minute host of the competition due to the pandemic, which caused the original organizers, Argentina and Colombia, to withdraw.
Former Benfica player Ángel Di Maria scored, in the 22nd minute, the goal that ended a 28-year drought – Argentina had not won since 1993 and had already lost two finals to Brazil in 2004 and 2007. Different luck, then, for two Benfica players – party for Otamendi, sadness for Everton, both starters in this final.

It is Lionel Messi’s first title for his country’s formation, aged 34, and after five finals. The Argentine, even before the final, was named best player in the tournament alongside Neymar. «It is not possible to choose only the best player because this tournament has two», justified the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol).
