Jakarta: Positive case covid-19 which infects health workers (nakes) continues to grow. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health for Covid-19 Vaccination Siti Nadia Tarmizi said the increase in cases was due to comorbid or congenital diseases.
“The health workers who died were partly due to comorbidities and had not been vaccinated,” said Nadia when contacted Indonesian Media, Saturday, July 10, 2021.
A total of 1,183 health workers in Indonesia have died due to COVID-19 as of July 8, 2021. Siti said that most of the health workers infected were asymptomatic (OTG).

“90 percent of the infected health workers are OTG and have mild symptoms,” he explained.
Meanwhile, an epidemiologist from Gadjah Mada University, Bayu Satria Wiratama, said the exact cause of the death of health workers needed to be revealed. This is because many health workers have received the vaccine but can still be exposed.

“Is it really the low effectiveness of the vaccine or is there another reason,” Bayu said in a written statement.
He explained that the existing evidence was not strong enough to show that a third dose for health workers was needed to prevent the Delta variant. There is also very little evidence regarding the Delta variant causing COVID-19 to be more severe than the previous variant.
Bayu said that the Delta variant could not be concluded to be more vicious. Stronger evidence, according to him, the Delta variant is more contagious.
This led to more severe cases after the emergence of the Delta variant. The variant, which was first discovered in India, causes more people to get sick and will be directly proportional to the increase in people with moderate to severe symptoms.
Previously, the Ministry of Health decided to provide a third dose of vaccine for health workers. The provision of this booster vaccine is to increase the antibodies to health workers who are at the forefront of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
