6. Windows 11 is a free update – but you will have to wait for it
If you use Windows 10 today, the good news is that Windows 11 will be a free update.
However, it is unclear how new your computer needs to be to run Windows 11.
However, Microsoft is working on refining a tool that automatically scans your computer and tells you if your computer does not meet the requirements.
There is also no set date for when you will be able to install the latest version of the now 35-year-old operating system.
Microsoft says the first users will get Windows 11 by the end of 2021, but that only applies to those who buy a new computer.
If you upgrade from Windows 10, you will probably only be able to install Windows 11 in early 2022.
However, the new operating system will be launched to users over and over again, and Microsoft estimates that it may take up to six months to reach everyone.
If you keep the plan, you will be offered the new operating system during the summer of 2022.
