Josep Borrell: There is a light at the end of the Covid-19 pandemic tunnel

There is light at the end of the tunnel of the KOVID-19 pandemic, but we must remain vigilant because of the new options that are emerging. This was stated today at a forum in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and called for cooperation with Russia and China, Hina reported.

We reach the end of the tunnel, but the pandemic continues to rage, especially in South America, Africa and India. We must remain vigilant because new options are emerging, Borel said at the 14th edition of the Dubrovnik Ministerial Forum. This year’s meeting focuses on the impact of the KOVID-19 pandemic on geopolitical relations and the world economy.

Borrell said one of the consequences of the pandemic would be an increasingly insecure, unequal and less free world.

Inequality will be visible, not only between countries, but also in each country. The decisive factor in fighting the pandemic is the vaccines, without which we cannot win this battle, Borel said.

Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandrokovic told the forum that the pandemic would change our lives permanently and there will be no going back to life before it, and cooperation, solidarity and unity are needed more than ever.

Council of Europe Secretary General Maria Pejcinovic-Buric, European Commission Vice-President Dubravka Shuica and several European ministers also told the forum that KOVID-19 had shown that multilateralism and solidarity were a necessity in today’s world.

“There is no clearer example of a cross-border challenge than KOVID-19,” Pejcinovic-Buric said.

EC Vice President Dubravka Shuica, who is also EU Commissioner for Democracy and Demography, noted that the virus has not affected EU member states equally.

“If one has to draw a conclusion from the pandemic, it is the importance of solidarity,” Shuitsa said.

The foreign ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Malta, Slovakia, Slovenia, as well as state secretaries from the foreign ministries of Cyprus and Hungary also addressed the forum.
