FORMULA E: THIS WEEKEND, THE TWO RACES OF THE NEW YORK CITY E PRIX

The Formula E single-seater World Championship returns to the USA in New York, in the streets of Brooklyn, in the shadow of the Manhattan skyline, for rounds ten and eleven of season seven.

Edoardo Mortara, the Venturi Racing team driver, is at the top of the provisional classification after having chained a podium and a victory, that is to say 40 points, during the eighth and ninth round in Puebla, Mexico.

CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

In the race for the World Championship podium, twelve pilots are now less than 24 points, or less than a victory in the race. As the Puebla weekend showed, everything is likely to change, and quickly, in Formula E.

With its 40 points taken in Mexico, Mortara is the man to beat in New York. The Italian-Swiss had yet arrived in Puebla, only … thirteenth in the standings, at 30 points the former leader, the Dutchman Robin Frijns of the Virgin Racing team, who unfortunately for him, scored no point in Puebla and left the door open for pursuers.

It was the Venturi pilot who took advantage and now has a margin of 10 points on Frijns which now occupies second place. He hopes for better in New York and he has every reason to believe in it after his victory in 2019, his most recent in Formula E.

Defending Champion, Portugal’s Antonio Felix da Costa of Team DS TECHEETAH, may have struggled to achieve the results he hoped for in Mexico, but he and his two-time winner teammate Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne came out relatively unscathed, in much the same situation as when they arrived. The Portuguese occupy the third position, Vergne is ten.

Audi’s brace in the eighth round saw Rast grab fourth place in the standings, Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans is fifth.

Jean-Eric VERGNE, twice crowned CHAMPION in NEW YORK IN 2018 AND 2019

Jean-Eric Vergne, the 2018 and 2019 double champion, explains:

“The main thing is to focus on the remaining races. I’m less than a victory in terms of points from the leader, there are six races left, anything is possible, that’s why the most important thing is not so much to think about what is going on. passed in the season but to focus on the remaining races. “

And the French driver continues:

“It’s always good to come to a circuit where we have won, I won two Championships here so in general, there are good vibes on this circuit for me, so it’s something to try to cultivate. I’m not saying I’m going to win either, but I know we’re on a track that suits us, that I like, so that’s a good thing. “

ABOUT THE NEW YORK CITY E-PRIZE

It is one of the favorite circuits for drivers, teams and fans. The 2,320 km Red Hook circuit with 14 corners remains largely unchanged from the last Formula E visit in 2019.

The circuit winds around the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal site in the heart of Brooklyn’s Red Hook neighborhood. It’s a real test, lined with miles of ruthless concrete, overlooking Buttermilk, Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

However, riders will have to adapt to the new ATTACK MODE activation zone, with the loop being moved from the exit of Turn 5 to the outside of Turn 10 this year.

In the battle for Brooklyn that closed the 2018/19 season, Sébastien Buemi of Nissan e.dams and Robin Frijns of Virgin Racing each won the race.

However, it was the Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne from DS TECHEETAH who made the headlines, inscribing his name in the Formula E history books as the discipline’s first consecutive double champion.
