KNVB wants to postpone Eredivisie after new measures

The KNVB is investigating the possibility of postponing the start of the new Eredivisie season. The football association hopes to immediately start the new season with full stadiums by postponing the opening game.

Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced at the press conference on Friday evening that the measures regarding events will be tightened again. This means, among other things, that football stadiums can be filled to two thirds during matches, at Feyenoord that means that slightly more than 30,000 supporters would be welcome. Spectators must be tested in advance.

The new measures will expire on August 13. On that day, however, Go Ahead Eagles and sc Heerenveen kick off the new season. However, the KNVB does not want to start the new season with half-full stadiums and is looking at the possibility of postponing that game for a day. “We have waited a long time for the return to full stadiums and it is a big disappointment that we cannot immediately start with a hundred percent audience,” the KNVB said to the newspaper. ANP.

“All clubs have invested in making the stadiums corona-proof. We have contributed to the solution direction through pilot events and Field Lab Events. Supporters and sponsors have shown a flexible and loyal attitude. Given the increasing contamination figures, we understand the measures, but hopefully we can we can quickly scale up again to one hundred percent occupancy if the virus develops favorably.”
