Getting to the Center through Manga has become a real nightmare. Since June 23, the closing of the Las Palmas Bridge that it was working in one direction only, which has caused daily traffic jams due to the impediment of vehicular flow. As if that were not enough, on the morning of this Friday, July 9, the traffic jams worsened because the traffic lights in the area do not work.
The traffic jams are not only on Avenida Jiménez, but they extend along the entire Fourth Avenue to the entrance of Puente Román and it is not due to lack of power that the traffic lights stopped operating, because they keep flashing.
Why are the traffic lights not working?
The universal he consulted with Miguel Ángel Valderrama, traffic light engineer from the Administrative Department of Traffic and Transportation (Datt), who explained that the intermittence of the traffic lights is precisely due to the closure of the bridge.
“The traffic light intersection of the Las Palmas Bridge was placed intermittently, because it is closed. The others also get like this for precisely the same reason, the closing of the bridge ”, explained Valderrama. “Why would we put to work some traffic lights that do not fulfill any function?”, He added.
“Every day there is a new traffic jam in Manga, this delays and there is no solution. No bridge and now no traffic lights. We are beautiful ”, said a taxi driver to The universal.

“What is being done is that sometimes the Roman Bridge traffic guards, is that sometimes they enable the two lanes on the bridge and what comes from the Arsenal to the bridge is momentarily held back to make way for what comes from Sleeve. That is the temporary solution that we are enabling because without the Las Palmas Bridge there is no way to go ”, concluded the traffic light engineer.
“As a short-term solution, it has been taken to rehabilitate the passage through the Las Palmas bridge through a system of metal girders, which allow the loads to be transferred to the ends of the bridge and on these some steel sheets. It is an intervention that would not exceed $ 200 million and the agency already has these resources, ”noted the Secretary of Infrastructure.
