News from Alkmaar: Pavlidis leaves Willem II and signs a four-year contract with AZ

Vangelis Pavlidis is leaving after more than two seasons Willem II take a step higher. The 22-year-old Greek striker makes the switch to AZ, for allegedly 2.5 million euros.

The Greek striker signs a four-year contract with AZ, the club from Alkmaar reports via official channels. Pavlidis is happy with his move. “AZ is one of the best clubs in the Netherlands. My first impressions of the club are very good. AZ has achieved good results in recent years. Playing European football is something I really look forward to.”

Pavlidis spoke for a long time with AZ defender and compatriot Pantelis Hatzidiakos before his transfer. “I have talked a lot with Panta. It is very special to play with him not only in the Greek national team, but now also at AZ,” says Pavlidis.

Football affairs director Max Huiberts states that Pavlidis has not yet reached his ceiling. “Vangelis has made an impression in the Eredivisie in recent seasons and is one of the better strikers in the competition. Moreover, there is still a lot of elongation in his development. We are going to play many matches again this season, both in a European context and in the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup. That is why we want to have a good quality selection. We are very happy that it came through today.”

The Greek striker was scouted by Willem II at the German VfL Bochum. In 82 official games in Tilburg service, he scored 33 goals and fourteen assists. Last season he scored fourteen league goals in Tilburg.
