Olaf Stiller was also part of the Krefeld squad. He didn’t get off to a good start at his Bundesliga premiere as the new 1st Chairman of the HTC Blau-Weiß. In second place Andrea Collarini (ATP 206) got off to a good start against the Czech Tomas Machac (ATP 144). He was unlucky when his set ball was blocked by his opponent with a net scooter to make it 6: 4. That was the key scene of the game. Because the Italian got out of rhythm, his opponent got better and better and in the end deservedly prevailed in two sets.

Krefeld’s newcomer Andrea Arnaboldi (ATP 277) fought a balanced duel against Tim Pütz, but had to admit defeat twice in Tiebraek against the German doubles specialist, who no longer plays singles on the ATP tour.

The remaining two blue-whites of the Quadra Azzuri did better. In the top individual of the day, Marco Cecchinato (ATP 86) had a tough time against the French Antoine Hohang (ATP 156) and had to fight his way to the 7-5 victory in the first set. Then he made short work of it. Andrea Pellegrino (ATP 243) then made the 2-2 equalizer on his debut for blue-white with a strong performance against the experienced Belgian Steve Darcis, who has not played on the ATP tour since January 2020.

After the double line-up, everything pointed to a division of points. Because Aachen’s specialist Tim Pütz, after all number 39 in the ATP double ranking, went into the duel together with Tomas Machac against the second Krefeld duo Arnaboldi / Collarini as favorites, which was also reflected in the result. So the blue and white hopes rested on the duo Cecchinato / Pellegrino. That was very difficult in the first set and could only decide the passage with the seventh set ball. It remained exciting because the Aacheners scored a surprising number of points on the net. In the end, Pellegrino transformed the third Krefeld match ball with a longline ball.
