Thomas Silberberger: “It will be another battle against relegation” – Bundesliga

The 5-day training camp of the WSG Tirol in Hochfilzen / Leogang ended successfully today with an intensive training session and lunch together. What remains of it are tired bones and all-round satisfaction. Tomorrow, Saturday, Thomas Silberberger’s boys will have their last test before the first competitive game on July 17th. in the cup against Leobendorf. The test match opponent is the German second division club SV Sandhausen.

On Friday afternoon, the WSG Tirol team bus drove back home with bus driver “Sissi” at the wheel. After five intensive days in the training camp, with a test match in the legs, a lot of experience in the heads as well as players and trainers in the passenger compartment, all of whom raved about the sweaty stay in Leogang. Training intensity top. Weather great. Hotel great. Food great. Integration top. And no major wounds. In particular, the involvement of the thirteen nine players was one of the tasks that had to be carried out for the support team in the WSG training camp near the biathlon stronghold of Hochfilzen.

And if you believe the protagonists themselves, it was done excellently. “Everyone feels good, nobody feels marginalized,” said midfield motor Nemanja Celic, outlining the situation after five days together, often in the same room. “I feel completely at home, I was really welcomed by the boys from day 1,” one of the newcomers, left-back Leon Klassen, confirmed what Celic said on behalf of the 12 others. The integration worked – not only next to, but also on the pitch. “We have got players who are of high quality. They have to find their way into our game system first. But I’m in a positive mood, ”said Tobias Anselm, one of eleven players in the squad who wore the WSG dress last year and therefore knew in advance what to expect: a clear game philosophy that, come what may, pushed through will be, 32 game days long.

However, this also makes it easier for the young players to jump into the unknown system, as WSG coach Thomas Silberberger explains. “Because they don’t have to constantly adapt to new systems.” Actually, ‘just’ about pushing ahead early and switching quickly. As in the previous year, when this attack tactic often pushed more financially strong teams to their limits and – acted as relegated players – ultimately reached the championship round.

The head coach believes that this year’s squad will do the same. “I think that we are on the way a bit more exciting than we were last year,” Silberberger hopes. But that doesn’t mean that you automatically want to talk about the master playoff. “Our goal remains relegation.”

A realistic goal that has obviously already been set in the minds of all stakeholders. Because, regardless of whoever you talk to about season goals, the “relegation” occurs in every conversation. Even though it was clear to everyone that it could be a little more again. Or as new entry Klassen put it: “If we start the season well, we can see what else is possible.”

The summary of Thomas Silberberger (WSG head coach) on the training camp: “I think the whole camp was extremely positive. For me it was the most important training week of all autumn. Because we had to integrate 13 new players – not only on the pitch, with the game system, etc., but also off the pitch, in the hierarchy of the team. Everyone had to find their place. The training camp was downright perfect for that. Five days is a reasonable time for a summer training camp. I am completely satisfied because we delivered the content that we wanted to bring through excellently. And things went perfectly off the pitch too. The new players have found their way into the team. ”

Stefan Köck (WSG sports director) about the training camp: “The guys are all really pulling along, the preparation is flawless. If something bothers you, it is the fact that one or the other, who will probably be in the starting lineup, has always been missing in the test matches because of a minor injury. To this day we have not started a test match in the supposed starting XI. “

Thomas Silberberger (WSG head coach) on the current squad: “I think that we had an extreme need for action in some positions, but also that we did well. And I think that we are a bit more exciting on the way than we were last year. But that doesn’t mean that we’re automatically talking about the Bundesliga championship playoff. It will be another battle against relegation. I hope that we will manage to play a role similar to that we played last year. “

Stefan Köck (WSG sports director) on the composition of the squad: “I am very satisfied with the squad because I am convinced of our work, not just mine, but also that of the entire coaching team. We have selected players who we are convinced that, on the one hand, have athletic and human quality and, on the other hand, fit our game. I have the feeling that an excellent team will grow together again. “
