An understandable choice from the care perspective, but “from the enforcement perspective we were not waiting for this,” says Struijs. “The summer of love is coming. We have seen that many people, not just young people, feel the need to go out and sit on terraces late into the night. We expect that people will now look elsewhere for refuge,” said the union chairman, referring to private parties and a move to the park. “To the left or to the right, this is accompanied by noise pollution, so that requires a lot from enforcement. We will bet on the excesses.”
hassle
Gerrit van de Kamp, chairman of the police union ACP, also expects that with the tightened measures there will be another “big bite” of work for enforcers. “Twelve o’clock is of course a very reasonable and beautiful time, but there has also been a lot of drinking and that can be a hassle.” That the reins are being tightened again with the reintroduction of restrictive measures asks a lot of people, says the chairman. “I’m curious how that goes.”
It is still unclear when and for how long the early catering closure will apply. Van de Kamp: “I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t specify an end date, because last time the date had to be moved every time and that caused a lot of hassle.”
