Jakarta –
Indonesia is branded as a bad example Corona virus treatment (COVID-19) by Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB, Prof. Dr. Didin Damanhuri. What is the basis for his statement?
First, the government has even increased the infrastructure budget in the 2021 State Budget. The government has allocated a budget for infrastructure development this year amounting to Rp 417.8 trillion. The budget increased by around 48% from IDR 281.1 trillion in 2020.
“And drastic reductions in health budgets, then also social assistance budgets,” he said in a webinar, Friday (9/7/2021).
Then the government is also tempted to release the emergency brake and get back on the economy in the middle Corona virus treatment, although in turn the government established an Emergency PPKM.
“So gaspol, all reopening, malls, even tourism, and then also major economic activities, including the debate on starting the construction of a new capital city,” he continued.
“In my opinion, the fate of a country with a large population with immature democracy in Indonesia has consequences, in which the governance is not solid, so it becomes a controversy between the center and the regions,” he explained.
Then, according to him, business people have pressured the government to open business activities as soon as possible.
“Because there is a superimpose thesis between health and the economy, it can be done at the same time, which in my opinion is somewhat contradictory to the experience of handling the crisis, which does not focus on the demand side,” said Didin.
Especially when there was a large-scale transmission of COVID-19 in India, he considered the government to be taking the influx of migrants from India to Indonesia lightly. Even though the country is currently being hit by the Delta variant of COVID-19.
“And it is said that according to the expert, I quote 90% of the time now that it is the Delta variant that then creates, not only a long holiday, new year, then Eid al-Fitr, but the existence of this Delta variant that made Indonesia today, yesterday, had 38,000 daily cases and deaths above 1000. We are practically the highest in the world,” he explained.
According to him, Indonesia is not very ready to face a major crisis, in this case the disease as well as the economy caused by COVID-19.
“Not to mention the controversy, for example in May, the regions had proposed tightening but were rejected by the central (government). So the relationship between the center and the regions is also not finished in this era of decentralization and democracy,” he said.
“So I guess problem governance In this democratic era, especially facing a major disease and economic crisis at the same time, Indonesia seems to be one of the countries with a bad example, in the end the impact is now the country with the highest number of daily cases and the number of deaths, he said, around the second or third,” he added. Didin.
