The former commander of the Armed Forces (Armed Forces), General Williams Kaliman, whose whereabouts is unknown to the Police, is an “important actor” in the case called “coup” because he can distort this process with his statement, warned lawyer Jorge Santisteban.
The lawyer is part of the defense of General Jorge Terceros, one of the four former military chiefs arrested in this case.
“Kaliman has very important things to say in legal proceedings. He can consolidate two things: distort the coup, just as the other former commanders who are detained are initiating and, on the other hand, shorten the deadlines for this process to end, ”lawyer Santiesteban told Página Siete.
He said that while Kaliman is in hiding, when he is found and makes his statement, he could resolve this issue.
In December 2019, Kaliman ruled out that there had been a “coup” against former President Evo Morales; He said that the military institution was essential to guarantee democracy and avoid confrontations between Bolivians.
Kaliman’s whereabouts are still unknown and it is not ruled out that he has left the country through unauthorized border crossings, as indicated yesterday, Thursday, by the Minister of Government, Eduardo del Castillo, although he indicated that it is known that he would have changed his address before the issuance of the arrest warrant against him.
The Police activated the search for the former head of the Armed Forces, on whom there are two arrest warrants, one for the “coup” case and the other for breach of duties; for the second case, Kaliman was under house arrest, but the measure was not complied with, the police reported.
The Government clarified that the Police did not have a fiscal or judicial order to guard the former commander’s house.
