Measures tightened: catering must close again at 00.00

The cabinet also wants to end testing for access in the catering industry, discotheques and at festivals. Testing for Access should only be allowed for so-called ‘placed events’, where people are in their place.

This is legally difficult, say insiders. The exact details are currently being worked out.

In addition, consideration is being given to limiting the maximum number of visitors: for outdoor events it is now thought that a maximum of 1000 people may be present, for indoors the maximum number of 500 would be on the table. The exact numbers are still under discussion.

Does this mean festivals will be cancelled?

If Testing for Access stops for festivals, catering and discotheques, this means that the one and a half meters will apply again in those places. The maximum number of visitors is also limited.

The effect of the new measures will have to become clear in the near future, but it is possible that most festivals will be canceled.

Tonight at 19:00 pm there will be a new press conference in which the measures are explained. It can be followed via our site and apps, and on RTL 4.

Infections are rising

According to the cabinet, the intervention is necessary because the number of people infected with corona is rising rapidly. The cabinet also wants to prevent the Netherlands from turning ‘dark red’ on the holiday map, so that the Dutch are no longer welcome abroad.

“We are not yet at that high level of protection and we really need to prevent more people from getting long-term Covid,” said outgoing minister Grapperhaus prior to the cabinet meeting on possible tightening.

Hospitals not yet full

Although hospitals are not currently dealing with large numbers of Covid patients, the increase in the number of infections is “worrying because we still have to deal with Covid,” says Grapperhaus. “Yesterday there was an increase in the number of cases by 200 percent. Then we really have to say: now very carefully on the spot.”

The GGDs have also told the mayors that there are increasing concerns about long-term covid, with people who have had the coronavirus for a longer period of time with complaints such as fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle aches and headaches.
