The Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus said the incident began when members were on patrol during the Emergency PPKM.
“There was a crowd there, all of them racing wildly, then they were disbanded,” said Yusri when contacted, Friday (9/7).
Yusri said that when the members were trying to disperse the crowd, the motorcycle gang actually fought back.
“The disbandment has been carried out but there is resistance, even officers who are ganged up by them,” he said.
Yusri said that after the incident his party immediately conducted an investigation and managed to arrest one perpetrator.
Yusri said, currently the police are still working to track down other perpetrators who were involved in the incident.
“We have managed to secure one person now. We are still pursuing other perpetrators, we will take firm action against all of them,” said Yusri.
From the 30-second video, a police officer is patrolling around Jalan TB Simatupang, Cilandak and stops for a moment to disperse the illegal racing.
Not long after, a number of youths suspected of being members of a motorcycle gang surrounded a policeman and showered him with punches and kicks.
The police retreated several times out of desperation. Then, he pulled out a pistol and fired a warning shot into the air. The young men who robbed the police then ran away.
Until now, the police are still developing a case of assault on police personnel by the motorcycle gang.
