UdeC, ready for the August-January semester under any Covid scenario – Pacific Station

The general director of Higher Education of the University of Colima (UdeC), Susana Preciado Jiménez, stressed that the educational institution is prepared to start the school semester that begins on August 16, 2021 and ends on January 22, despite any scenario that may arise derived from the health contingency due to the coronavirus (Covid-19).

Preciado Jiménez affirmed that for said period a hybrid return to classes is contemplated, that is, considering both face-to-face and remote activities, depending on the level of risk in which Colima is at the epidemiological traffic light for Covid-19.

“We are planning the return to classes in a hybrid mode, because even though we are at a green traffic light, we are still at a low level of contingency, attention, and we will have to continue taking care of ourselves in order to prevent us from returning to yellow or orange,” said Via phone to Miguel Angel Vargas from Pacific Station.com on Super 98.9 FM.

The general director of Higher Education of the UdeC pointed out that in the hybrid modality the classes would not be taught in a traditional way, but rather the teachers would provide advice, so that in this way the students continue with the distance program.

Susana Preciado Jiménez highlighted that the university plans a new way of working, in which modules with subjects are defined, where there are teachers who specifically attend face-to-face or online activities of the same subject; He specified that the subjects of each module will be compatible, to meet the academic needs of each student.

“In Higher Education what was done was to integrate modules of the subjects, which allows us to have teachers who can attend face-to-face activities and teachers who could be attending online activities in the same subject. The module means that they are integrating contents of the subjects that they found that, due to the development of the contents and the competences that are needed in the students, they are highly compatible ”, he said.

The stage before the green or yellow traffic light

In the event that Colima remains at the traffic light verde The UdeC will remain in contingency to avoid generating more infections. The university explained that although face-to-face classes, workshops and laboratories with small groups would be resumed, it will be chosen because the theoretical contents continue to be taught virtually.

On the other hand, in yellow Only “bubble groups” would attend in person, that is, students who are at academic risk, who need advice or do not have the necessary technological equipment to continue with their training.

“We have worked at the University some guidelines that were already presented by the rector (…) There, differentiated actions are established to attend academic attention depending on the epidemic risk that we could be having, both in orange, yellow and green, it is established in what conditions we could be having face-to-face or semi-face-to-face activities at times if we are in yellow or green, and obviously a suspension if we are in red ”, he commented.

“If we are already in yellow or green, there it allows us to work in a hybrid modality, which allows us to identify which would be the subjects that we could be attending in person with small or reduced groups,” he added.

In any of these scenarios, the basic sanitary measures, such as the use of a mask, healthy distance, ventilated spaces and disinfection of hands with alcoholic gel, will be maintained.

The UdeC before the orange or red traffic light

Preciado Jiménez indicated that if the entity returned to an orange or red traffic light, face-to-face activities would be canceled immediately, to return to the modality of work at home and distance classes.

“If we were in an orange or red color, the face-to-face activities are immediately canceled and we return to the modality of work at home and distance education, as we have been doing all this year,” he said.

20% of Higher Level students have had difficulties connecting remotely

On the other hand, the director of Higher Education at UdeC stated that in the educational institution 20% of students do not have the necessary technological tools to access classes through the distance mode, a sector that, she assured, has sought to serve .

“We did a survey and we have that 80% of the students can access the means of communication they have in order to continue with their classes, and there is 20% who told us that they do not have many possibilities to attend classes through their online education, so that 20% is the one that we have focused on attending, and in some cases it is very focused on schools ”, he reported.
