– It was fun. I had a good race all the way. After almost half the race, I ran past Eskil, nice that he did not take my back immediately, and at the lap I had a minute lead so it felt pretty calm, Bergman says to SVT Sport.
There were several runners who used headlamps and some parts of the forest filled with sandstone slopes lay in the dark.
– Right after the start it was very dark and I had time to think that I did away with myself who did not have a headlamp but there were no problems then, says Bergman.
Bergman had to turn in a couple of dark crevices at the end and looked stressed but could storm towards a new relay gold. He was received by William Lind and Albin Ridefelt and together they ran jubilantly across the finish line. Norway was almost a minute behind as second.
Bergman went out 59 seconds behind on the last leg
William Lind sent out Gustav Bergman as third on the last third leg. He had to go out almost a minute after Norway’s Eskil Kinneberg (competing for IFK Gothenburg) who got the lead after an almost flawless race by Kasper Fosser.
– It was a good race even though I was a bit tough in the beginning. Got a little shaky when I felt we were in the lead. I dropped Kasper on a roadway at the end. It is very dark and I understand those who use headlamps, says Lind after his first race in the WC.
The relay started at 18.25.
Riding field with new blood white
Albin Ridefelt was 1.35 behind on the first leg.
– I messed it up at four and got stressed and careless with the map reading. It took a lot of time and then it became stress but the ending was really good. It was nice to see the main competitors Norway and Switzerland also had a little trouble, says Albin Ridefelt who switched as fifth with a bloody chin.
And as I said before both Switzerland and Norway. Ruslan Glibov, club friend with Gustav Bergman in OK Ravinen from Nacka, first switched for Ukraine who topped their team.
– I pulled in some branch at the end but it was much lighter than the last race so there is no danger. I did not think about the leg at all, but it was completely calm, he says about his blood white and the deep wound from Tuesday’s middle distance.
