Bob Balaram, chief pilot and chief engineer for the Mars Helicopter Project at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said: “The journey through hostile terrain is expected to challenge navigation algorithms. Ingenuity in a new way.

“The onboard algorithm that allows Ingenuity to determine where it is along the flight path,” he was quoted as saying CNN, Thursday (8/7/2021).

A potential challenge that Ingenuity faces on the terrain is the problem of finding the landing site, because Ingenuity’s camera assumes that the ground is flat.

“There is a possibility that Ingenuity will land on more dangerous surfaces, with higher relief than the sandy patches that have been selected so far, ”he said.
