After the collapse of a high-rise near Miami, the authorities no longer assume there will be survivors. Eight more bodies have since been recovered. The use is made more difficult by the effects of tropical storm “Elsa”.
The authorities switch the rescue operation to a rescue operation after the collapse of a high-rise near Miami. The new category applies from midnight. Rescue workers informed relatives of victims that there could be no survivors in the rubble in Surfside.
Rescue teams would no longer use sniffer dogs or devices to detect sounds, said Miami-Dade District Deputy Fire Chief Raide Jadallah. “At this point we have really exhausted every option available to us in search and rescue,” said Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
Eight other bodies were recovered. This increased the number of deaths to 54. 86 people were still missing.
Tropical storm makes rescue work difficult
The search continued on Wednesday, although rain and wind from tropical storm “Elsa” made the work difficult. Removed debris was sorted and stored because they could serve as evidence in the investigation into the cause of the accident, as the authorities said.
The residential complex had partially collapsed on June 24th. No survivors have been found since the first hours after the accident. The rest of the building was demolished on Sunday.
