Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Deputy Chairman of the Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MULTI-FUNCTION), Ahsin Sakho stated that his party was ready to test the halalness of the corona virus vaccine from the United States, Modern.
“We are ready. If anyone proposes, whatever it is [vaksinnya]MUI is ready,” Ahsin told CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (7/7).
It is known, the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) has given emergency use of authorization (EUA) or emergency permit to use Moderna vaccine for use in Indonesia.
Ahsin said the Moderna vaccine and Pfizer vaccine are still in the process of being tested for halal by the MUI.
He explained that if the vaccine contains non-halal elements, it can still be used. This is because Indonesia is currently still in a state of emergency and the available vaccines are still limited.
“Will there be unclean elements later. Is it from pigs or not? If there are elements, they are definitely forbidden. But if it’s an emergency, you have to use it, it’s only allowed during an emergency,” he said
Furthermore, Ahsin explained that the process of submitting a fatwa at the MUI initially started with a review process carried out by several people who were sent by the MUI to examine the ingredients or elements contained in the vaccine.
After that, the results of the study were reported to the MUI fatwa commission to be formulated into a fatwa.
“But it seems that if there is no najis element. Yes, it can immediately be made lawful,” he said.
BPOM said that the Moderna vaccine was included in the emergency use listing (EUL) from the World Health Organization (WHO).
In fact, BPOM said the Moderna vaccine was effective against mutations of the corona virus variants B117 Alpha, B1351 Beta, and P1 Gamma. Meanwhile, the latest evidence for the B1617 Delta variant has not been reported.
