The average number of confirmed infections per day between June 27 and July 3 has increased by 66 percent compared to the week before. 545 Belgians have tested positive for the corona virus.
In the same period, more than half more tests were taken, an average of 62,400 per day. The positivity rate, the number of confirmed infections in relation to the number of tests, remains stable at around 1 percent. This is evident from figures on the dashboard of health agency Sciensano on Wednesday morning.
The number of hospital admissions and corona-related deaths, on the other hand, continue to fall. Between June 30 and July 6, an average of 16.4 people with corona were admitted to Belgian hospitals every day. That is a fifth less than the week before, although the most recent daily figure of 25 hospital admissions is the highest of the past week.
In total, there are now 257 patients with corona in hospital, 102 of whom are in the intensive care department.
On average, just over three people still die every day from the effects of Covid-19. That is a decrease of 18 percent compared to the previous week. Since the start of the corona crisis, 25,194 confirmed corona patients have already died in Belgium.
More than 7.4 million Belgians have now received at least one vaccination with a vaccine against Covid-19. That amounts to just under 80 percent of the adult population and 64.5 percent of the total population. More than 4.2 million adults have been fully vaccinated, accounting for 46 and 37 percent of the adult and total population, respectively.
