New York Former Police Officer Eric Adams won the Democratic primary for New York City Mayor. The temperate Adams was declared the winner on Tuesday (local time). He prevailed against a large number of competitors. One of them was former presidential candidate Andrew Yang.
Adams ran a head-to-head race with former city cleaning officer Kathryn Garcia and won the election by just one percentage point. The former policeman said, “Now we need to focus on winning in November so we can deliver on the promise of this great city for those who struggle, who are underserved and who have a safe, fair and affordable future for everyone New Yorkers wish. “
It is believed that 60-year-old Adams will win the main election against Republican Curtis Sliwa. Then he would be only the second black mayor of New York City.
In the primaries, which ended on June 22nd, voters chose up to five candidates and indicated the order in which they preferred them.
