The team made the announcement in a press release. The transaction will however be formalized and completed with the league on Wednesday.
In the statement, sporting director Olivier Renard clarified that the team was satisfied with Sejdic’s work, but that they had received an offer from Atlanta which was ultimately accepted after internal discussions.
According to Renard, this decision is also explained by the fact that the formation has several players in the midfield position, in particular young people whose progress satisfies the leaders of the team and whose momentum we do not want to slow down.
Sejdic was in the last year of his contract, which included an option clause for next year.
Sejdic had been selected at 34e rank in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. With the Montreal team, he played 22 games, including 12 starts, and 1140 minutes, scoring two goals.
CF Montreal will play their next game on Wednesday night when they host New York City FC at Exploria Stadium in Orlando.
