Nate McMillan becomes Atlanta Hawks head coach

McMilan, who arrived as an assistant in November 2020, took over from coach Lloyd Pierce, who was fired in March. The Hawks had a difficult start to the season with a record of 14 wins for 20 losses before McMillan rectified the situation (27 wins – 11 losses over the remainder of the regular season, 10-8 in the play-offs).

Atlanta was eliminated Saturday in the Eastern Conference final by the Milwaukee Bucks, after knocking out the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers, one of the big favorites for the title.
