Qualcomm wants to forget about Apple’s M1 chip

The San Diego founder hopes to create a computer chip capable of competing with Apple’s M1.

At the end of last year, Apple got everyone to agree with its M1, its first home computer chip. Lately, the firm introduced it on its latest generation of iPad Pro, or its iMac 24 ″, and it has shown itself perfectly at ease on all these supports.

Today, if Apple seems to have its eyes on the future and a probable M1X chip intended to equip its high-end machines, its competitors hope to come and play spoilers with rivals to the M1. The founder behind the Snapdragon for our smartphones, Qualcomm, intends to compete with Apple in the computer chip market… thanks to the engineers who took part in the development of the M1!

Leader on mobile… and soon on computer?

Cristiano Amon, new CEO of Qualcomm, has just detailed the plans of the company and its desire to offer a more efficient and economical chip than the Apple M1. To do this, the founder will in particular rely on the expertise of former thinkers of Apple, who had left Apple to found NUVIA. That’s good news: this company was acquired by Qualcomm earlier this year for nearly $ 1.4 billion.

On the smartphone chip side – a sector in which Qualcomm is already a leader – Cristiano Amon explains that, despite the current political tensions between the United States and China, Qualcomm is maintaining its growth in the Middle Empire. The new CEO of the firm even explains that the sanctions that still weigh against Huawei represent a certain opportunity for Qualcomm.
