Zelensky stressed that Lithuania is a reliable and permanent partner of Ukraine. And although there is no common border between the countries, there are common values, interests and aspirations.
“Today, Ukraine is defending its statehood, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and all this time on this difficult path, Lithuania has been our reliable, our constant partner. Lithuania was one of the first to condemn the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, Lithuania was the first to officially declare its readiness to support Ukraine’s accession to EU. We will always remember this, we will always be grateful for this, “Zelensky said.
At the same time, he recalled that Ukraine and Lithuania have a common past, in particular during the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, one of the leading European countries, where Lithuanians and Ukrainians freely coexisted. These are the Lithuanian statutes, the sources of which were, in particular, the Lithuanian and Ukrainian customary law.
