Coronapass: – The surprise came after Gardermoen

GARDERMOEN / FRANKFURT / RHODOS (Dagbladet): An hour and 45 minutes from when we lined up in the foreign queue at Gardermoen on Monday morning at 07 it was before we went through the security check.

Admittedly, this was the very first day of corona passports in the EU and 25 “green” countries in Europe.

But what nightmare was it then that awaited us down in Europe?

On the way to Rhodes and Greece we were to change planes in Germany at one of Europe’s busiest airports, in Frankfurt.

Most recently in Dagsrevyen on Sunday, airport director Stine Ramstad Westby warned at Gardermoen that foreign tourists must be prepared for six to seven hours from the time they arrive at the main airport until they are through the checks where they are going.

Surprise

The preliminary conclusion came around noon on Monday.

And the result was surprisingly positive after the start at Gardermoen, where there was an even bigger queue behind after approval at the checkpoints than in front of us when we started early.

It simply went away in a few minutes both in Frankfurt and at Diagoras Airport in Rhodes – including luggage on the conveyor belt here.

Two simple explanations:

The checkpoints you were used to where you arrived before the pandemic are now done at the airport you leave from plus much more – in our case Gardermoen.

2. Make sure that you have the corona passport on helsenorge.no ready (preferably with a paper copy in addition) and have filled in the entry form for the country you are going to – in our case Greece.

We went with Lufthansa, from Oslo with SAS planes and SAS crew on behalf of the German company.

Not automatic

And it started with no automatic check-in for foreign travel as it was before the pandemic.

Therefore, we were guided to the foreign queue with our luggage.

Both the travel agency and experienced employees at Gardermoen explained that Lufthansa was extra strict.

– There are many new tasks we have familiarized ourselves with in the last days before the corona passport in the EU. If we do not do this new part of the job thoroughly, it will be our problem, explains the employee in the manual check-in.

Servings closed

The suitcases go on the conveyor belt when we have documented the corona passport, the usual passport as ID proof, that the arrival form to Greece was sent the day before and that we have not been to any “red” countries before we stop and move around the airport in Frankfurt.

Then the usual security check with metals and PC is next.

Everything as before there. The new thing afterwards is that almost all restaurants on the way to the street are closed. Only an almost empty duty free shop is open.
